Concept
The animation, The First United Ice Cream Assembly closes today (video below), is the earliest part I developed in this project. It is a piece of fabricated news about a fictional ice cream world, exploring media representations and their efficiency in an absurd way. According to the news, an ice cream organization, United Ice Cream, addressed its first assembly to declare mission of maintaining peace in this world. In this fun project, I combine raw online video footages, live action shooting footages, 3d-generated images as well as motion graphics into an experimental piece.
Stills from Video

In 2021, I developed the Ice Cream project into a mixed-media installation which includes video, physical objects and scent.
I combined static video, live streaming news, a found object, self-made scent oil and ice cream sculptures to enrich the context of the alternate world in “The first United Ice Cream Assembly closes today ”. In this installation project, a sugary, ice-cream-like scent oil was sprayed on several artificial ice cream installed on microphone stands, therefore the audience can smell it all around the exhibition space.
The static video and the news live streaming will play together. The former is set to a higher volume, but audiences could hear the sound from the live streaming more clearly when the static video goes to a 30 seconds silent transition before the next loop.
